Poverty
Photos and text by Till Mayer, German Red Cross, Berlin 2002
Till Mayer, born in 1972, has worked closely with the Red
Cross as a journalist and photographer for years. He travelled
through numerous war- and crisis-torn regions of Africa, Asia
and Europe. From 1999 to 2000 he worked as an information
delegate for the German Red Cross in the Balkans. In this
book, Till Mayer calls attention to the devastating effects
of poverty and deprivation on families and individuals worldwide.
A travelling exhibition including pictures from the book can
be used by National Societies.

The Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons is one of
the principal instruments of international humanitarian law.
It seeks to minimize suffering in armed conflict by prohibiting
or regulating the use of certain weapons which may cause unnecessary
suffering or have indiscriminate effects. This publication
contains the text of the Convention and its Protocols adopted
as of 21 December 2001. It is intended to promote understanding
of the Convention's rules and to facilitate its ratification
and implementation by governments.
