Sir Geoffrey Newman-Morris contributed significantly to the development of the Australian Red Cross, which he chaired for 19 years from 1959, and the International Movement.

A qualified doctor, he brought valuable medical experience to the Red Cross. As a young man, Sir Geoffrey volunteered to work with the organisation. He worked as a surgeon with Australian troops during World War Two.

He won several awards, including the Henry Dunant Medal, the highest Red Cross award, in 1979. He was proposed for the honor by the Indonesian Red Cross. In 1981, he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Singapore Red Cross.
